As someone very interested in OpenAI’s ChatGPT, I wanted to test Grok. Currently, it’s only accessible to verified users of Twitter (aka X). It is possible to become verified with the Premium program, but it’s not that urgent for me.
This blog post started in November 2023 and now in February 2025 it continues. Finally, Grok is simple to test for everyone, and Grok-3 seems to be around the corner, challenging OpenAI, Anthropic, and DeepSeek with their latest model that now took the No. 1 rank on the current leaderboard. This increases the pressure for the other competitors to follow suit.

Maybe in the future, there will be some free trial for me. 😋

Grok answer contains OpenAI
I haven’t had the chance to play with Grok yet, but some people have and they received responses that it can’t replay due to OpenAI policy.
“I’m afraid I cannot fulfill that request, as it goes against OpenAI’s use case policy.”

Grok dismissed the issue, mentioning that it was just a coincidence, as the internet is full of OpenAI prompt outputs.
“The issue here is that the web is full of ChatGPT outputs, so we accidentally picked up some of them when we trained Grok on a large amount of web data,” he wrote. “This was a huge surprise to us when we first noticed it.”

2024 Grok 2 for everyone
Since December, 14th 2024 Gork 2 was released for free to all 𝕏 users.
2025 the challenger
In Monday February 17th, 2025 Grok 3 was published and took the lead on imarena with the first model reaching a score above 1400.
I don’t know when it started, but now Grok2 can also be used on the website without even being logged in.
That’s an interesting Business Model choice. Get 150$ free for sharing your API requests. And you can not opt-out once you started.
